Annette Slocume

Hello Avon Community Nursery School fans!

My name is Annette Slocume.  I am currently the lead teacher and have been with the school since 2000.  I am proud to carry on the curriculum that has been passed on from generations of creative, loving, caring teachers of the past.

I was born and raised in the charming Avon community,  as was my husband of 21 years, James and our two children, Adam and Aaron. A work opportunity for my husband had us move to Maine, where we resided for four years. We did not know anyone, and I wanted for my children to be in the company of other children. While there I started a library story hour in the small town of Steep Falls.  When my oldest son was in Kindergarten I was asked to help out in his classroom, which led to my training to become one of their staff as a one-on-one aide for special needs children.  I worked for the district for three years before returning home to Avon where we have been  since.

I became involved in the Avon Community Nursery School when my youngest attended there.  I became an aide for the teacher at the time and have remained there ever since!

I am also a Site Supervisor of the Rush Henrietta School Age Child Care program.  I receive training throughout the year, including training certification from the American Red Cross.  I have been with this program since 2006.

I simply adore and enjoy working with and for children.  I hope to have the opportunity to work with yours!

Kay Vukosic

Kay Vukosic is our assistant teacher at Avon Community Nursery School.

She is so excited to offically be in the classroom. Most students over the past couple of years already thought that "Miss Kay" was a part of their school day as she was there to help with big projects, step in to help hand out snack and not hesitate to grab a kleenex for a runny nose.

Miss Kay was born and raised in Avon where she lives with her husband and two babies...well, they'll always be her babies regardless of how old they are! She enjoys spending as much time as possible with her family, reading books, camping, and baking yummy desserts.

Volunteers
Board of Directors

We warmly welcome parent and other family members to volunteer their time in our classroom.  Whether it's once a week or once a month, we would love to have you share your time with us...and so would your child!  We have also had many parents share their talents with our class, and we hope that you take advantage of this opportunity.

Avon Community Nursery School's Board of Directors consists of parent volunteers and the ACNS teachers.  The Board's main agenda is to promote ACNS and support the creativity of our staff.   We invite parents to join our monthly meetings and welcome ideas that will actively enhance our students' learning experience.
